The government is trying to set a precedent in Chihuahua to achieve, once and for all, that the competition between the US apple and that of Chihuahua is fair, said Governor Cesar Duarte Jaquez.
The Governor spoke about the dumping that the apple producers from the US carry out by saturating the market at very low prices with fruits of lower quality than those produced in his state.
"I think this is an issue with a history and, over time, it's been proven they are unfair practices that have jeopardized the marketing of Chihuahua's apple production," the governor stressed.
He added that the Government of Chihuahua was attentive and supporting actions to achieve having a fair competition in the apple market, as its cultivation and marketing in Chihuahua benefits thousands of families, both of producers and workers.
"Certainly, there have been developments and we've taken actions that have helped improve the situation but we want to set a precedent so that this situation is resolved once and for all," said Duarte Jaquez.
Producers hope that the Secretariat of Economy starts to apply severe restrictions on the importation of foreign apple this November, as their widespread introduction has been a breaking point for Chihuahua producers.
