Italy: Cauliflower production in Apulia is slightly late

Cauliflower season is about to boom with the arrival of the winter months.

The price of Synergy and Casper varieties has dropped slightly in the past few days due to the high temperatures recorded, as consumption usually drops when it's not cold, for cauliflowers are a typically winter vegetable.

In order to push consumption, different chains are putting them on special offer, which also affects producer prices, which tend to hover between 75 and 90 cents per kg.

The season had started in September with quotations around €1/kg, but prices ave continuously dropped since then. Temperatures are expected to drop next week, so prices and consumption should increase.

In addition, production form Apulia is sightly late with respect to 2013, and is expected to be available from early November. This in turn should lead to a gap on the market which should push prices upwards.
