Italy: Latest Fruitimprese data on fresh produce trade

The latest Fruitimprese data updated to July 2014 show the first signs of the struggle of Italian trade abroad which characterised the summer campaign. 

There was an increase in exported volumes (+5.5%) but their value decreased (-3.8%). Imports diminished both as regards quantities (-4.4%) and value (-5.4%). The balance remains positive at €418 million, 3.4% more than the previous year.

In absolute terms, Italy exported around 2.14 million tons of produce for a total value of €2.20 million.

There was an increase of citrus fruit (+3.7%), fresh fruit (+11.1%) and dried fruit (+23.1%); and a decrease of vegetables (-3.3%). In terms of value, the sign was negative for vegetables (-12%), citrus fruit (-8.3%) and fresh fruit (-2.2%) and positive for dried fruit (+37.1%).

As regards imports, Italy bought 1.20 million tons from abroad for €1.70 billion.

Italy imported less fresh fruit (-0.1%), vegetables (-6.1%) and citrus fruit (-29.3%) and more tropical fruit (+5.8%) and dried fruit (+18.6%). In terms of value, the sign was negative for vegetables, citrus fruit and fresh fruit and positive for dried fruit and tropical fruit.
