Peru: Mango exports increased by more than 25%

The Association of Exporters (ADEX) reported that the Peruvian fresh or dried mango exports accounted for 5% of all agro exports and became the fourth most important export of the agricultural and agribusiness subsector. Mango exports between January and August 2014 amounted to $119.9 million dollars, 27.2% more than in the same period last year. 

Besides exporting fresh and dried mango, Peru also dispatched canned mango and mango juice, i.e. value-added derivatives. Mango juice shipments to the Netherlands, Canada, United States and Germany amounted to nearly $2.3 million dollars. 

Demanding markets 
The Netherlands was the main importer of fresh and dried mango between January and August 2014 with purchases worth $44.6 million, 28% more than in the same period of 2013. 

The United States ranked second with purchases of $39.2 million (+31.7%), followed by the UK (+21.6%) and Spain (+22,7%). In total Peru exports mango to 27 different destinations including France, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Chile and Japan, among others. 

According to the Business Intelligence System ADEX Data Trade, Costa Rica, Argentina, Australia, Martinique and Luxembourg stand out as new destinations of mangos. 

Exporting companies 
138 domestic companies exported mango between January and April. The Sunshine Export SAC Company ranked first in sales as their exports amounted to $12.525 million dollars, i.e. 10.45% of the market share. 

Camposol SA ranked second with exports valued at $10.67 million dollars (8.9% of total sales), followed by Dominus SAC with $10.24 million (8.54%), FLP del Peru SAC with $7.159 million (5.97%) and Frutas Piuranas SAC with $5.71 million (4.76%). 

Rounding out the top ten companies are Passion Fresh SAC, SAC Sobifruits SAC, Tropical Fruit Trading Peru SAC, Pronatur EIRL and Agro Fresh Golden SAC

The management of Adex Agro stated that 85% of the total mango production is concentrated in Piura. 

In recent years, Piura's exports have shown a good momentum. In 2009 international sales amounted to $90 million dollars, while in 2011 they totalled $115.6 million dollars, and in 2013 they amounted to $132.7 million dollars. 

The agricultural and agribusiness subsector's ranking of products exported during the January-August period (466 in total) was led by avocados (which accounts for 12% of total shipments), grapes (9%) and fresh and refrigerated asparagus (8%).
