Shortage of Brazilian grapes

The first grapes from Brazil arrived in Europe this week. With the Greek season ending early, the Italian season as good as over according to importers and a 35% smaller supply coming from Brazil there is talk of a shortage. Prices are around 15/16 Euro. "The season is already laid out."

Moreover, Brazilian grape production is not increasing in contrast with, for example, neighbouring Peru. "The crop is decreasing. It is an expensive crop and the disappointing yields and prices over the last few years were not commensurate," says the importer. This year the Brazilians could have had multiple programs here in Europe. That does not happen often, but it is thanks to the season in Greece."

Usually the Brazilian grapes are available until the beginning of December. "For now the grape market will be okay. The succession of Namibia and the Orange River may come a bit earlier, but that will not do any harm and is not in the way this season."
