Italy: Agrieuropa increases spinach investments

"Quality is just as important for spinach as for other products. A good climate and the typical sandy soil of the area between Sabaudia, San Felice Circeo and Terracina produce unique spinach," explains Alberto Nocera, chairman of the Agrieuropa cooperative.

Agrieuropa has decided to make a big new investment on spinach - an excellent product that will be added to the others of the range.

Agrieuropa has introduced spinach as part of their range a year ago. In just a few months, they went from a few hectares to around 40. Spinach are produced throughout the year and up to 30 tons a day are processed.

"The produce is sold loose or in 400/500 gram packets (packed unwashed). We can also modify the packaging according to clients' requirements."

"We are willing to welcome new clients and reach agreements that can satisfy both parties."

Agrieuropa feels spinach can be a good product to attract the European markets. "We have decided to introduce this product because we are sure it can be appreciated in Europe. The quality is sure to please our current and future clients."

Spinach is collected from three main local producers and processed at the Agrieuropa facility (except for the loose produce), where there are two specific processing lines.

As it is grown in greenhouses, the produce is very resistant and it has a longer shelf-life than open field spinach. In addition, thanks to the particular weather of the area, cycles last only 23 days.

Agrieuropa produces and packages vegetables since 1991. It covers around 200 hectares, 99% of which is made up of greenhouses. Production is organised in order to be environmentally-friendly and to safeguard the safety and health of both workers and consumers.

Advanced cultivation techniques, modern machinery and expert agronomists are employed for the most genuine products. The positive results achieved on the market have led the cooperative to invest in an extension, which is already partly under way with the opening of a new spinach warehouse.
