Faire Woche: Lidl gives 50,000 euros to Fairtrade International

As part of the German 'Faire Woche', Lidl has given a cheque worth 50,000 Euro to independent organization Fairtrade International, German website Presseportal.de reports. Florian Schütze of Lidl International gave the cheque to Andreas Kratz of Fairtrade International in a Lidl store in Cologne on Friday, September 19.

The presentation of the cheque is a highlight of the promotional week and Lidl's sustainable engagement. Fairtrade International strives for better and fairer living and working conditions for disadvantaged small farmers and workers in Africa, Asia and South America, and supports local cooperatives. Products that are produced and traded according to the international fair-trade standard, are awarded the fair-trade logo.

This year, for the third time in a row Lidl is committed to fair-trade certified Peruvian coffee cooperatives. This year's donation will be spent on 72,000 new coffee plants for the Sonomoro and Sangareni cooperatives, as well as technical support for cultivation and maintenance of the coffee plants.
