Apple export from Moldova to Belarus has increased considerably

Moldova has considerably increased their apple export to Belarus since the import ban in Russia, reports the website fruit-inform.com. The number of Moldovan apples being exported to Belarus in August 2014 was 24 times higher than it was in August 2013, while the number of plums being exported has increased sixfold. Analysts from Fruit-Inform believe that most of these apples are being re-exported to Russia as apples that are originally from Belarus.

It was this re-export that helped stop the rapid rise in prices, this was registered in Russia the first week after the ban. This information has been confirmed by almost all the large trading companies and supermarket chains within the Russian confederation. Fruit-Inform says that in 2013 Russia was the most important export market for Moldovan apples and pears, approximately 90% of all Moldovan apple and pear exports were going to Russia. Only 7-9% of Moldovan apples and pears were being exported to Belarus.
