Mexico: Avocado production in twelve municipalities of Morelos will increase

To increase the supply of foods such as avocado, producers of this fruit and the State Government will join efforts to produce 110,000 plants to sow them in twelve municipalities and perform phytosanitary certification of 300 orchards.

Jesus Cano Arenas, representative of the avocado producers said these actions were part of the 2014-2018 Work Plan designed by the producers and the Ministry of Agricultural Development (Sedagro).

He added that the plan of producing high quality avocado involved the secretariats of Social Development and Economic Affairs of the Government and the delegations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA), INIFAP, FIRA and the new National Rural Financier.

Roberto Ruiz Silva, head of Sedagro, said they had had meetings with avocado producers from twelve municipalities between July and August.
