The Vittoria season is almost over, whereas the Italia and Pizzuttella campaigns are in full swing.
"Italia grapes are a bit pale and it's affecting sales. Usually, prices hover around €1.10-1.20/kg in this period, but sometimes we can even manage to reach €1.40-1.50/kg. It all depends on the colour, as Italian customers prefer grapes that is more yellowy," explains Riccardo Bargellini, sales manager and co-owner of Gobbi Gino snc.
"Pizzuttella grapes are selling well, we can reach €1.50/kg and sometimes even €1.70-1.80/kg. At the end of October 2013, we managed to sell it at €2-2.30/kg, but we will have to see how things go."
One thing is certain, at the moment it is the colour that determines whether a certain variety sells at good prices or not. "The yellower, the better".
Both Italia and Pizzuttella will be available until October/November. Then, it will be the turn of stored and imported grapes. "We are talking about storing the produce so as to import less from competitor countries. In Apulia some have already started selecting the best produce to place in units."
