Tbilisi opening only the beginning for Spar in Georgia
The conversion of these existing stores from the Foodmart chain enabled the very rapid introduction of the SPAR brand into the Georgian market, coming only a few months after the announcement of the granting of the licence by SPAR International.
David Moore, SPAR International Business Development Director said: “It is a key part of the role of SPAR International to assist new countries to develop the brand. We have worked closely with our new Georgian partner Foodmart to develop these new SPAR stores. It is becoming increasingly important that when we establish new stores in new countries, we take note of local consumer needs and we are determined to be more specific in matching our SPAR offer to our customers and locations in which we trade,” he said.
SPAR International has stated a desire to continue to expand the footprint in new territories around the globe. Moore added: “We are building a very solid business across a number of regions in Russia and our move into Georgia is a natural extension of that development. The strength of the Foodmart business has provided us with a great start. We are delighted with the first weeks performance and are confident about future growth and expansion in Georgia. SPAR Georgia plan to convert all 51 Populi and Loli stores to SPAR in coming 24 months.”
