Brazil: Lime exports to Europe will grow by 20%

The Brazilian lime campaign is going on well and exports to Europe show a significant increase compared to last season.

"Up to week 33, we have exported 2,312 containers, while last year around the same time we had only shipped 1,895. And not only the volume has been greater, but prices have also increased," states Daniel Briso, of Argofruta; an exporter of limes and mangoes from Brazil.

This price increase is the result of the bad weather in Mexico, especially the tornado of September 2013, which affected the flowering process and which has led to them shipping fewer volumes of fruit to Europe.

Daniel assures that the prospects for the remainder of the season, depending on what Mexico does, are still good, with around 20% expected growth.

This increase is in line with a statement from Leonardo Cruz, manager of Tesco in Latin America, who said that the sale of Brazilian products in Europe grew by 15%, mostly because of the World Cup.
