Turkey: August vegetable export up 50% in 2014

This past August Turkey exported 50% more vegetables than last August, reports the German website Fruchthandel.de. According to the 'Mediterranean Exporter Union' tomatoes made up the bulk of exports, adding up to 28% of all vegetable exports.

1,000 tons of potatoes were exported from Turkey. Since last year the price of potatoes has tripled. Only cucumbers saw a decline in the volume exported (-30%) and in the value (-48%). Germany is still the most important export country for Turkey, followed by Saudi Arabia and Russia. Georgia, Syria, Qatar and Kuwait are also becoming important export countries, says the Mediterranean Exporter Union. Deliveries to these countries are rapidly increasing.
