"Special Fruit sees slight increase in sales of granadilla"

"Not enough people know the granadilla"

Special Fruit offers a lot of different exotics. They're not all as well known. For instance the granadilla. This fruit belongs to the passion flora family and has a hard yellow/orange peel. The granadilla is imported from Ecuador and Colombia and is available all year round, according to the customer's demand. According to Lieve Michielsen of Special Fruit there is a light annual increase in the sales of this special exotic.

Flavour

"The granadillas flavour is comparable to that of the passion fruit, but is slightly more sweet and sour. The fruit is fresh with a tropical aroma." She indicates that the prices of this fruit are stable. "A bit higher than the 'regular' passion fruit, but they are different sizes. In general they are packaged loosely in 2 kilo boxes."

"The manner of eating it is also comparable to the passion fruit. You can spoon it out or use it in baking and such. But this fruit has a different appearance." Just like passion fruit there are not enough people who know the granadilla. "It is sold everywhere in Europe at the moment, but in small volumes. There is a small rising line in the sales, but it needs more attention to become more well known. So far the product is mainly promoted and eating during the holidays," concludes Lieve.
