Peru: Infrastructures should grow at the same pace as producers

Corporación Agrolatina is a Peruvian family business based in Ica and Nazca devoted to the production, packaging and export of grapes, fundamentally Red Globe, which is mainly shipped to the Asian market, and Flame, exported to the United States and Europe, as well as avocados and pomegranates.

Carla Robles, commercial manager of the company, says that "we have 100 hectares for avocado cultivation in Nazca and another 350 hectares planted with grapes and pomegranates in Ica. This year we plan to export 350 containers of grapes, of which 310 are Red Globe."

The firm is one of Peru's 10 largest grape producers. Carla assures that "in addition to a strong market position, Corporación Agrolatina has all the necessary certifications to export to the international markets, including Global G.A.P. or Rainforest Alliance, and meets all standards of quality and safety."

As regards the new season, the commercial manager says that the prospects are good. "The quality of our fruit is recognised by the markets, resulting in high demand. Our brand in Asia, Sweet Panda is one of the most popular."

The grape season in southern Peru lasts from December to March. According to Carla, "the main challenges for Peruvian grapes lie both in climate change and in the supply chain." Regarding this last point, she states that "although there are still cases of congestion, it is an area which thankfully continues to improve."

"The primary goal is for infrastructures to grow, because we, as producers and exporters, are also growing, so there is still much work to be done, both in Callao and Paita. Next year we hope to increase our production and we aim to diversify our markets, especially in Southeast Asia," concludes Carla Robles.
