Peru: VII International Asparagus Congress

The executive director of the Peruvian Institute of Asparagus and Vegetables (IPEH), Carlos Zamorano Macchiavelo, announced that the VII International Asparagus Congress, Leading the market with innovation and excellence, would be held on September 18 and 19. The goals of the event are to show the world the importance of asparagus and analyse the sector's current situation, the vegetable's productive chain and its trade routes.

Zamorano Macchiavello noted that national and international experts, who will analyse the sector's situation in order to establish new production and commercial strategies, would be participating in the event.

The congress will be held in the Main Auditorium of the Universidad Agraria La Molina, and will bring together over 300 participants including producers, exporters, suppliers, academics and leading authorities of the asparagus. There will be discussions in four areas: plant nutrition, automation of the asparagus industry, genetic improvement, and markets and marketing.

There will be presentations about the technical improvements in agricultural management, the promotion of international quality systems, as well as the identification of key factors that optimize processes to improve efficiency in production, respecting the environment. The IPEH will also present the activities it does to favour the asparagus industry.

"Let's not forget that Peru is the leading exporter of asparagus in the world and that this product has been considered one of the top products of agricultural exports in our country. This is why the IPEH is concerned about generating different instances that involve the entire production chain, so we can analyse the problems and generate different strategies that the sector can adopt in the medium term," said Carlos Zamorano.
