Onubafruit revolutionises the market with exclusive raspberries

Thanks to the produce marketer Onubafruit, consumers all across Europe will now be able to enjoy Huelva-grown raspberries. The new, unique and exclusive varieties feature great flavour, quality and shelf life. Through this move, the firm has been able to strengthen its leadership in the sector as Europe's largest producer and marketer of berries along with being Spain's largest producer of raspberries, with 60% of the market share.

After several years of research and yearly investments over € 1 million, Onubafruit have started this marketing campaign with four exclusive new varieties of raspberry: the Imara, Kweli, Lagorie and Vajolet. These exceptional, unique fruits will be available from early September to late June, and solely marketed by Onubafruit. Thus, with over 10,000 tonnes of raspberry production and a trade season longer than 10 months, Onubafruit strengthens its presence and increases its market share. 'There is no firm in Huelva supplying such a full range of berries as the one we provide our customers, with adequate volume, quality and service. This will enable us to be the sole supplier of berries for many big customers', affirmed Onubafruit commercial director, Carlos Esteve.

Raspberry varieties

Presently, Onubafruit grows four strawberry varieties which feature traits unknown to Huelva-grown raspberries up to now: the Imara and Kweli, which yield in the autumn and spring, and Lagorie and Vajolet, which yield in the winter. 'They beat and improve the berries already grown in the province, regarding flavour, colour, shelf life and productivity for our growers as well, so that we are really happy with them, as will our customers and consumers', stated Esteve. He seized the opportunity to highlight that they are the one and only producer and marketer of these varieties. 'Our R&D department will keep growing with the world's best breeders and we will have new raspberry varieties in the forthcoming years, as we believe this is the right track and the only way to keep the leadership and prestige we enjoy today.'
