Sydney Markets to auction the first tray of mangoes
The Sydney Markets Foundation and the Australian Mango Industry Association have teamed up once again to auction the first tray of mangoes to the highest bidder, with all proceeds going to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Save our Sons.
The Australian Mango Industry Association CEO Robert Gray said the Sydney auctions are a way of letting people know that mango season is almost here.
“There is so much anticipation for the mango season, and it is not far away now. Everyone is looking forward to getting their hands on one because mango season really signals the start of summer,” he said. “Although the season isn’t in full swing yet, there is a little bit of early season fruit available, and it will continue to trickle in until mid-October. That’s when the season really gets underway and then there will be an abundance of beautiful Australian mangoes around for everybody to enjoy.”
The festivities will begin at 7am with the auction taking place at 8.30am. The mangoes that will go up for auctions have been donated by mango producers Red Rich Fruits and We Pack from Darwin.
At the 2013 auctions, $30,000 was raised, with proceeds going to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Cancer Council Australia and Oz Harvest.
