Switzerland: fruit industry reports record revenues
The plum harvest is currently at full speed. The 'Schweizer Obstverband' (Swiss Fruit Union) expect 4,300 tons from the plum harvest. That would be 15% more than the last big year, which was in 2011. All these plums have a downside as well actually. Because the supply will most likely overtake the demand, there is talk of a downward price spiral, writes LID. Right now the market prices are on target. Wholesalers are currently selling plums at lower prices than normal.
The fruit industry expects a big harvest from top fruits as well. Apples from fruit plantations are expected to have a harvest of 152,600 tons. That would be 15% more than the previous year. The pear harvest is expected to yield 25,110 tons, 16% more than last year.
