Peru: Mango exports to South Korea will increase

Mango exports during the first half of the year amounted to $120 million dollars, 27.4 percent more than in the same period last year.

The main destinations in the first semester were the Netherlands, the US, the UK, Spain, France, Canada and Germany, among others.

Joon Ho Jang, CEO of Foodya Food, estimated South Korea's demand for frozen mango could increase after Expoalimentaria.

He added that he would visit this trading platform in order to acquire more than $800,000 dollars of frozen mangoes.

"We are currently in the middle of the process of importing 16 forty feet containers with Peruvian companies," he said.

He explained that there is a high demand for Peruvian mango in South Korea, and that the amount they were currently importing wasn't enough to meet demand.

"Our customers will demand a greater volume of this fruit and that it should be of Peruvian origin," he said.

Their main distribution channels are retail companies, food services and franchise stores. He stated that they were also interested in buying frozen blueberries.

Other Asian companies confirmed their participation in Expoalimentaria, which will be held in Lima between August 27 and 29 at the Jockey Exhibition Centre.
