He is expecting to double production this season, "This party due to good growing conditions and partly down to more area planted. Last year there was less volume which made prices high and export was difficult. This year due to the better supply we can offer our customers better prices.Our good supply position has allowed us to be choosy with the sizes and this year we are sending better sizes of fruit."
On the Indian market there is not much demand for arils, the consumers there tend to go for the whole fruit, any arils go for export but Nagesh explains this is not such a big market.
Deccan Produce traditionally export to the EU and Russia, but there has been more interest from East Asian countries such as Thailand and Malaysia in the past few seasons.
There has been much speculation that countries such as India would profit from Russia's import ban on EU, US and Australian imports, but Nagesh said he has not seen much moving in that direction yet, "Our exports there only really pick up in December, by this time Europe is normally done exporting, I do not expect much to change. Possibly we will get better prices or can export a bigger selection of fruit."
