Avocado export in Mexico in first six months of 2014 +20%

Avocados from Mexico are winning market shares overseas, reports the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) on their website. In the first six months of this years the export increased by 29% compared to the same period last year. According to the Mexican ministry of Agriculture (SAGARPA) 353,000 tonnes of avocado worth 794.4 million American dollars was exported from Mexico between January and June.

The export to China in particular increased hugely. In the first six months of this year the export value was 724% higher at 2.97 million American dollars than in the same period last year. However, the largest market for Mexican avocados remains the US. In the first six months of 2014 255,000 tonnes went in this direction. That was 72% of the total export amount. The export vale increased compared to the first six months of 2013 by 31% to 651.3 million American dollars.
