Peru: The fruits and vegetables' seasonal performance has an influence on price increases

According to a report by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), last July, the seasonal performance of some vegetables had an impact on the increase in prices that consumers paid.

According to the report, tomato prices increased by 42.7%, lettuce by 26.5% and Creole corn by 12.1%.

Regarding fruits, the INEI reported that mangoes increased by 23.7%, due to a lower seasonal supply, followed by other fruits such as melons (10.1%), limes (9.2%) and Israel apples (8.8%), among others.

According to the report, domestic products had an incidence of 0.12% in the country's inflation in July, following the rise in agricultural prices of products such as onions.

In contrast, prices of imported goods, including agricultural products, fell.

As for the accumulated inflation in the first seven months of the year, the INEI reported it amounted to 2.68% with a monthly variation of 0.43%. Regarding the annual trend of this indicator (July 2013 to July 2014), the reported stated it amounted to 3.3%, representing a monthly average variation of 0.27%.
