Turkish lemon export still strong

The Turkish lemon export increased by 31% during the 2013-14 season. Mersin, the main export region for citrus in Turkey, raised its export figures for lemons despite its neighbouring countries' conditions. The president of the sector committee of the fruit and vegetable unions and the 'International Citrus Council' say that the domestic lemon prices will remain high until the new season's products enter the market around the 20th of August. He explains that the increase of the prices won't stop until the stocks of the 'Straw Lemon' are finished.

The president also mentioned the fact that the 'International World Citrus Congress' in 2020 will take place in Mersin and that the preparations for this congress have already started. He also emphasised that the goal for 2023 is to raise the citrus export to a value of 3.5 billion dollars.
