"Fred Krijnen: Rotterdam Fruit Wharf: "Capacity of 12,000 pallets available"

"Demand for cooling storage from exporters and grower temporarily stuck due to boycott"

At Rotterdam Fruit Wharf the closure of the Russian border to fruit and vegetables from the EU has caused an increase in the demand for cooling storage. The fruit storage company, which is part of the umbrella organisation Belgian Sea-Invest Group, is specialised in the storage of importing fruit, but also has capacity to store other fruit and vegetable products.

"We are now being asked about cooled storage possibilities by companies we don't traditionally deal with; producers and exporters who are temporarily stuck. It doesn't really matter to us where the fruit and vegetables come from, so we're happy to offer those possibilities," says general manager Fred Krijnen. How long this extra demand will last depends on all kind of decisions in Brussels and whether the exporters find alternative markets soon."

"We have space for around another 12,000 pallets besides our usual storage, divided over more than 30 separate cells, each adjustable to a temperature between -2 and +15°C. We also do all customs formalities, including fiscal representation, are a recognised VWA checking station and offer services such as repackaging and order picking more and more often with our partner ERP," concludes Fred.
