European producers of dairy products, meat products and vegetables have asked the Swiss authorities to let them export to Russia from their territory, since Bern is free of sanctions from Moscow as it doesn't belong to the EU.
In recent days, several European organizations in the food and agricultural sector have asked the Swiss authorities to explore the possibility of exporting their products to Russia via Switzerland, said Anna Rizzoli, Communications Director of the Swiss Federal Bureau of Agriculture, to the newspaper Izvestia.
The head of the Economic and Financial Department of the Swiss Embassy in Russia told the newspaper that the procedures for registering companies in the Swiss jurisdiction to export to Russia are complex and exportable products include a series of controls. At the same time, she stated that the production's income into the territory depended entirely of the Russian customs.
Another Swiss official stated to the Russian newspaper that European producers were seeking to export their products to Russia via Switzerland or South American countries, where they must find partners and a way to achieve their goal. It's worth noting that, according to reports this week, the EU plans to conduct a series of political talks with Latin American countries that plan to increase exports of agricultural products to Russia, after this country banned the importation of foods from the EU and the U.S., in response to Western sanctions.
Moscow banned the import of beef, pork, vegetables, fruits, poultry, fish, cheese, milk and milk products for one year from the U.S., the European Union, Australia, Canada and Norway, in response to sanctions imposed on them by those countries. Ecuadorian suppliers have shown great interest in supplying Russia with fish, shrimp, fruit, vegetables, coffee and cacao.
