Astrid Kunst, Nature's Pride:

"Passion fruit consumption increased, but still too unknown for consumer"

Passion fruit is originally from Brazil. There are a number of passion fruit varieties, some are sweeter, some are the size of an egg, while others are three times as big. The skin is leathery and purple. The fruit contains yellow, jelly-like flesh with black edible pips.

Nature's Pride currently receives passion fruit from Colombia and Vietnam. "Passion fruit supply is steady at the moment. Volume-wise, enough is available," Astrid Kunst says.

According to the purchaser, consumption of passion fruit has gone up over the years. "The consumer is aware of the fruit - as an ingredient, or in cocktails or ice cream - but they often don't know what a passion fruit looks like. Or if they do see a passion fruit, they don't know what product it is. It would be desirable to further increase consumer knowledge."
