Palletvoordeel, Budget Food and Gekke Gerrit
New supermarkets take on Aldi and Lidl
There is fresh meat in the Dutch supermarket scene. Three individual businesses are trying hard to start up new formulas across the country, De Telegraaf reports. The new shops are called Palletvoordeel, Budget Food and Gekke Gerrit and are at the bottom of the market. The three formulas will take on the successful German chains Lidl and Aldi. Those two chains have seen their market share in our country grow from 8 to 14 percent in just a few years. This growth is expected to continue.
More and more people have gone to discount formulas, mainly due to the economic setbacks. The Lidl developed into a shop where all shopping can be done. Budget Food and Palletvoordeel have already opened a number of shops over the last few months. Gekke Gerrit will open its first location next month. The three businesses all have years of experience in the sector.
