Seatrade joins shipping debate at Cool Logistics Global 2014
The shipping debate is one of the main highlights of the conference providing a critical feeding ground for sampling the latest trends in reefer shipping and equipment availability.
Seatrade recently announced that it will be investing in two 2200 TEU container vessel new buildings with 700 reefer plugs each. Built by Yangfan Group in Zhoushan, the purchase marks a significant new departure for the world's largest operator of specialised vessels, better known as conventional ships.
The new Seatrade container vessels are believed to be a series of 12 such new ships.
Having scrapped a large number of high maintenance conventional ships in recent years, the traditional reefer shipping sector lost market share to the reefer container shipping sector.
Mr. Buitenwerf will be joined by Deon Joubert, Special Envoy, Citrus Growers Association of South Africa, Wim Dillen, Senior Business Development Manager from the Port of Antwerp and two key-note speakers from Maersk and CMA CGM.
Thomas Eskesen, Global Head of Refrigerated Business at Maersk Line and Alexis Michel, Senior Vice President, Container Logistics and Reefer at CMA-CGM, will provide different takes on the current state of the reefer and dry box industry together with a commentary on the latest available financial results.
Time-to-market, transhipment risks and port turnaround will feature strongly at this year's conference, which has become the annual meeting ground for the maritime and multimodal perishable logistics sector in Europe, according to Rachael White, Managing Director of Cool Logistics Resources.
A critical extension of reefer container and conventional perishable supply chains will be the subject of a separate presentation by Mathijs Slangen, Director Strategic Accounts at TIP Trailer Services, on the second day of the conference.
Having joined TIP from Seabury Group last year, Mr. Slangen will provide a unique insight into multimodal transport options for perishable commodities exploring the intermodal boundaries for inland reefer container operations, 45 ft boxes and the reefer trailer business.
Cool Logistics Global brings together shippers of perishable cargoes from fresh produce to protein, carriers, infrastructure and logistics service providers including representatives from China, Singapore, New Zealand, South Africa, North and South America and Europe.
