See the latest and greatest at Asia Fruit Logistica

Finding new products, technologies and markets is key to capitalising on the growth opportunities in Asia’s fast-moving fresh fruit and vegetable business.

Visitors to Asia Fruit Logistica on 3-5 September will find a comprehensive array of products and services from all six continents, and from every step of the fresh produce value chain.

With more than 460 exhibitors from 38 countries set to take part in the sellout show at AsiaWorld-Expo Center, Asia Fruit Logistica is gearing up to host Asia’s biggest gathering of the global produce business to date.

Whether it is pink-fleshed pomelos from Vietnam, sugar apricots from Turkey or Nergi kiwiberries from France, there will be plenty of exciting and innovative products on display.

At the Vietnam pavilion, Vietnam’s Vinafruit will be showcasing its new varieties of lychees and purple-fleshed dragon fruit, while at the New Zealand pavilion, visitors will get to see Piqa Boo, the first of a groundbreaking new range of pear varieties to be unveiled.

Bred by fruit science company Plant & Food and commercialised by Prevar, the Piqa range of pears combines the flavour of European pears with the texture of Japanese varieties and the shelf-life attributes of Chinese types.

New technologies will also be making a debut at Asia Fruit Logistica, with Italian company Turatti showcasing its new strawberry capper, which removes the fruit’s calyx, and Van Amerongen CA Technology launching its APP|ell control system, which the company describes as “the most modern of its kind for the market right now”.

Latin America’s fastest-growing exporter Peru will also be enhancing another strong showing at Asia Fruit Logistica this year with newer product offerings, such as avocados and seedless varieties of grapes.

Peruvian avocado exports to Asia are in their infancy, but the country’s producer organisation ProHass predicts a bright future ahead. “This year, we plan to ship around 70 container loads to Hong Kong, currently the only market we supply in the region,” says ProHass’s Arturo Medina, who adds that Peru’s quarantine agency Senasa is working on establishing import protocols with South Korea, China and Japan.

With such a global array of products, suppliers and services on display, trade visitors to Asia Fruit Logistica are sure to leave armed with the contacts, information, and the overview of the market they need to grow their business.

“Besides the numerous business opportunities Asia Fruit Logistica generates for us each year, it’s also a good venue to meet up with our existing customers and colleagues from other companies to discuss market trends, business opportunities, competition, new packaging solutions, and to stay ahead on all other things that are happening in our sector,” says Jeroen Pasman of Vietnam’s Fruit Republic.
