Most efficient technology of vegetable growing invented in Japan

Less than a month ago a small greenhouse was opened in Kashiva (Japan), however, the lettuce already yields 10 000 plants per day. This is the result achieved by Shigekharu Shimamura, a physiologist who equipped an abandoned site (half a football pitch in size) with 17500 bulbs of violet colour. This provoked vegetables to grow 2.5 times faster.

The lettuce is densely growing on 16-deck shelves, so that the greenhouse requires only a few people to look after it. The efficiency of the technology is proved by huge water savings and much higher yields, as compared to growing in the field, reports Kedem.

The lettuce experiment showed the validity of the technology and motivated scientists to experiment with other vegetables in the most efficient greenhouse in the world.
