Average asparagus harvest in Brandenburg

According to provisional numbers from the Bureau for Statistics from Berlijn-Brandenburg, 15,800 tons of asparagus were harvested in the German state of Brandenburg in 2014, reports the German website Proplanta.de. That is 100 tons or almost 1 percent more than last year.

The average yield per hectare was around 5,370 tons (2013: 5,470 tons). Therefore this year the average is only 0.1 percent higher than the six year average (2008-2013: 5.360 tons per hectare).

According to provisional numbers the asparagus growing area in Brandenburg amounted to more than 3,600 hectares this year. More than 2,900 hectares of the 3,600 were able to be harvested. More than 14 percent of the total German asparagus growing area can found in this state. The main growing area is in the Beelitz region (Potsdam-Mittelmark district), this is the third largest asparagus growing area in Germany.
