Russia: Yield of 85,000 tonnes of potatoes estimated for Penza

At least 85 000 tonnes of potatoes are planned to be harvested in Penza this year, - Andrey Burlakov, the Minister of Agriculture in Penza region, announced on Tuesday, July, 22nd.

Generally, our potatoes are doing well. We are very likely to harvest 85 000 tonnes of potatoes, as it has been planned, explained the Minister.

It has also been noted that the yields in 2014 are expected to be of a higher quality, than in previous years.

Andrey Burlakov emphasized that in order to achieve this goal, only high-quality certified seeds are used. and growing programs are strictly followed. It was noted that seeds are currently bought outside Penza region.

Other regions started to developing their seed industry previously, so that they already have a strong base production of seeds. The Penza region also has some enterprises specializing in seeds, but they are not so developed for growing potatoes that would yield 50 tonnes per ha, - the Minister said.
