Italy: Latest FruitImprese data on Italian foreign trade

According to the latest FruitImprese data, the turnover of the first four months of 2014 was of €410 million, +7.6% with respect to last year. Exports increased both in terms of quantity (+6.9%) and value (+1.1%) and imports dropped a little (-0,4% in volume and -1.4% in value). 

Italy exported around 1.33 million tons for a total value of €1.42 billion.

There was an increase of exported vegetables (+3.7%), citrus fruit (+0.6%), fresh fruit(+10%) and dried fruit (+3.5%). As regards value, the sign was positive for fresh (+4.8%) and dried fruit (+46.8%), whereas vegetables (-6.7%) and citrus fruit (-12.3%) did not do so well.

For what concerns imports, Italy bought around 1.2 million tons of fruit and vegetables from abroad for a total of €1.12 billion.

The imports of fresh fruit (+12%), dried fruit (+28.2%) and tropical fruit (+9.5%) increased, whereas vegetables (-1.2%) and citrus fruit (-31.8%) dropped. In terms of value, the sign was negative for vegetables, citrus fruit and fresh fruit whereas dried and tropical fruit did well.
