Fruit and vegetable professionals meet in France

Headed by Jean-Louis Géraud, professionals from the ''fruit and vegetable'' sector met around a table. Relationships between the professionals are often tense. The meeting created a dialogue between the producers, marketers and large retailers at a time when Tarn-et-Garonne production (melons, peaches, nectarines…) is going to be offered to consumers. "Today this meeting has effectively allowed us to put a certain number of ideas on the table and make concrete decisions’’ says Jean-Louis Géraud.

Amongst these measures is a coordination cell (under the Chamber of Agriculture) that will include 50 or so people that meet twice a year in order to review volume made and volume expected and facilitate turnover in sales points. Yesterday the producers insisted upon the importance of promoting local products to consumers.

The inter-professions have announced a campaign that will promote French agricultural produce on national television. The question was whether a reference to Tarn-et-Garonne products could be made during the campaign.

The meeting probably did not fix everything, but they realised they were all in the same boat. ‘’We have progressed’’ says Jean-Louis Géraud.
