Melon and banana prices increase in France

According to the Relaxnews price barometer, Charente melons are more expensive than last week. Price of larger calibres increases 14% to €2.07/a piece whilst 550-800g melons are €1.63/a piece.

Melons are the fresh product with the highest price increase, between 14% and 12% depending on size. Banana prices have increased by 11% to €1.47.

Price decreases are limited, the largest is not more than 9% and is for green beans which have dropped to €2.79/kilo. Foreign peaches drop 8% to €1.66/kilo and white French nectarines have the same percentage decrease making them €2.55/kilo.

The Relaxnews price barometer is made every Wednesday using information from the Market News Service, under the Ministry of Agriculture. Every week 20 or so SNM employees record the retail prices of 150 products (fruit, vegetable, meat, fish…) in 150 medium and large supermarkets all over France (a representative sample of household consumption in France, conducted by Sofres).
