Bell pepper production Almería less than last year

Bell pepper producers in Spanish Almería have achieved an average profit of 15,700 Euro per hectare in the 2013/14 season. That's 24% less than in the previous season, during which a 20,600 Euro profit per hectare was achieved, German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) reports on its website. These figures are the result of calculations by Hortoinfo, based on data from the ministry of Agriculture in Andalusia.

The calculations relate to Californian bell peppers in the colours green, red, yellow and orange. According to preliminary figures, the average price for bell peppers (all colours) was 0.71 Euro per kg in the 2013/14 season. In the previous year, this average price was still 0.78 Euro per kg.

At an average harvest yield of 7 kg per m², in 2013/14 a gross profit of 4.97 Euro per m² was achieved. After deduction of average total costs, a net profit of 1.57 Euro per m² remains. The previous season, a net profit of 2.06 Euro per m² was still achieved.
