Brazilian government allocates 50 million Real to ensure orange price

The Brazilian government has allocated 50 million Real to conduct public auctions intended to match the current orange prices. This was published in the Official Journal of the Union (DOU) last Thursday through the Interministerial Decree No. 641, which defines the criteria for the funding in accordance with the price adjustments during the 2014/15 season.

"With the publication of this ordinance, the government can act to ensure a minimum price for orange producers, which currently stands at 11.45 Real for the 40.8 kilo box," said the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Neri Geller.

According to the Secretary of Agricultural Policy of MAPA (SPA/Mapa), Seneri Paludo, the Ministry of Agriculture has been monitoring the market prices registered by oranges at the time the harvest is about to start.

The auctions will be carried out by the National Supply Company (Conab), which will use the Prêmio Equalizador Pago ao Produtor (Pepro) and the Prêmio de Escoamento de Produto (Pep) as support mechanisms.
