In 2012, China imported over 9.2 million tons of fresh fruit, mainly bananas (625,997 tons, 22%), pitayas (469,245 tons, 16%), melons (457,393 tons, 16%), longans and litchis (381,963 tons, 13%), durians (296,396 tons, 10%), grapes (146,052 tons, 5%), oranges (96,666 tons, 3%), apples (61,505 tons, 2%), kiwis (51,955 tons, 2%).

As regards the main countries exporting to China, Vietnam (28%) ranks first followed by Thailand (23%), Philippines (18%), Burma (12%), Chile (6%), US (5%) and Ecuador (2%).
As regards vegetables, it would seem that Chinese production is enough to meet domestic demand in fact, in 2012, China imported only 4,271 tons of produce.

The main countries that exported vegetables to China were New Zealand (50%), South Korea (18%), Vietnam (9%), USA (6%), Canada (5%) and Laos (4%).

Exports
Practically all Chinese fresh fruit exports are destined to Asian countries. Apples, tangerines and pears represent 75% of the total volume.

In 2012, China exported over 9.2 billion tons of fresh fruit and mainly apples (975,880 tons, 33%), tangerines (819,141 tons, 28%), pears(409,584 tons, 14%), grapefruit (124,379 tons, 4%), oranges (123,455 tons, 4%), grapes (121,660 tons, 4%) and melons (114,395 tons, 4%).

The countries that exported Chinese fruit are Vietnam (19%), Indonesia (15%), Russia (12%), Thailand (9%), Malaysia (8%), Philippines(6%), Hong Kong (6%), Kazakhstan (4%), Bangladesh (4%), India (3%), Netherlands (2%)and Canada (2%).
As regards vegetables, China is the worldwide leader for garlic exports. Most exports are destined to Asian countries.
