Punjab Agricultural University scientist visits the Netherlands

Charanjit Singh Aulakh, Agronomist, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and Pawanjot Singh, Secretary, Potato Growers Association (POSCON) attended a four-day exposure visit to The Netherlands under the Dutch Potato Chain Programme. The visit was conducted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, The Netherlands for the representatives of different countries.

The Head, Department of Agronomy, PAU, G S Buttar said that The Netherlands leads in seed potato exports in the world.

"This exposure visit was aimed at showcasing the strengths of their potato programme to representatives of different countries, he added. The Dutch Potato Chain Programme consisted of visits to the potato breeding companies, Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR), potato farmers, potato processing machinery manufacturers and potato processing units", said Buttar.

"Ms Ingrid Korving, Policy Advisor from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, The Netherlands discussed the possibilities of having collaborations in this directions with the participating countries. The issue of setting up of Potato Centre of Expertise at PAU was also discussed with the scientists of WUR".
