Camposol sees good prospects for cooperation with Pacific Alliance

On Thursday June 26, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized an event on the Pacific Alliance, following the ninth summit of the Alliance that was held the previous week in Mexico. The ministry invited executives of Dutch enterprises with global activities such as Shell, KLM and Rabobank as well as several academic institutions to speak about their experiences with the countries of the Pacific Alliance. The presence of Camposol as leading company of the horticultural sector allowed to show that there are also companies of the Pacific Alliance in the Netherlands with a great potential to strengthen the commercial relationships between both regions.

Following a proposal of the Peruvian government, the Pacific Alliance was launched in Lima in 2011 between Peru, Chile, Colombia and Mexico, and the official agreement was signed at the summit in Paranal/Chile on June 6, 2012. With the new cooperation that transcends the traditional integration based on geographical proximity, the countries of the Alliance seek to gradually advance toward the free circulation of goods, services, persons and capital. Among the many achievements in these three years, particularly noteworthy is the elimination of 92% of the tariffs within the Alliance, apart from joint initiatives on an international level such as the opening of joint embassies and commercial offices, group participation at trade fairs etc.

As a leader of the Peruvian agricultural sector, Camposol recognizes the potential of the Pacific Alliance and hopes that with the exchange of experiences and knowledge between the countries of the Alliance it will be possible to develop homogeneous products in order to strengthen the position of the Alliance on the international markets.

Camposol is already working on the integration of different relationships between growers in these countries to achieve a joint offer with regard to the European market. The cooperation with growers from these countries is based on transparent practice and the transfer of know-how by Camposol. This model permits to combine the offer of growers of the Alliance to assure that the retail sector in Europe and other continents receives fresh produce all over the year. Sergio Torres, managing director of Camposol Fresh B.V.: “Our expectation is that together with growers from the countries of the Alliance we may establish an innovative business model reaching from commercial cooperation to joint ventures or FDI. Within this framework, Peru, together with the other members, will have an important role in building bridges for cooperation and relationships to provide a prosperous future for the economies and growers in the countries of the Alliance.
