Mexico will buy South Korean pears will head to Mexico

According to South Korea's Quarantine and Inspection Agency-QIA, South Korean pears can already be exported to Mexico.

The South Korean government said on Wednesday that, after nearly nine years of negotiations with Mexico, they had finally managed to meet all the quarantine requirements to begin exporting the fruit starting in September.

This is a new opportunity for South Korean farmers who, prior to this, had to register their plantations as orchards for exports and fruit sorters at the offices of the QIA before the harvest, if they wanted to send their products to Mexico. The South Korean authorities will carry out the fruits' inspection process to rule out the presence of any insect, reported the Yonhap News Agency.

In turn, as it is the first year of exports, Mexican inspectors will check the pear exports 5-10 days prior to shipment.

It's worth noting that, according to the QIA, Mexico is the third Latin American country to conclude negotiations with South Korea so they can start exporting pears. Previously, they had reached agreements with Chile in 1999 and Peru in 2013.
