Peru exports five million kilos of asparagus yearly to Spain

Apart from the wide variety of tropical fruits, the asparagus is the product that the Spanish market imports the most from Latin America. It is vital to maintain the ideal temperature of the product during its transport, handling and distribution so that it arrives fresh to the consumer.

Peru sends billions of asparagus to Madrid every year. Iberia imports five million kilos of asparagus every year to distribute them in the domestic and European markets.

Besides bringing the passengers luggage, all of the aircrafts of the Spanish company bring merchandise in their storage section. The transport of perishable goods represents 29% of all the products that Iberia carries in their storage section. This percentage increases to 63% if we only take into account the flights that connect America with Spain and decreases to 11% if the exports depart from Spain to America.

The golden rule so that the perishable products arrive fresh to the consumer is not to break the cold chain, keeping them at the temperature that the producer says. The speed of operation is essential so that the food doesn't lose its freshness. In many cases, the product goes from the fields to the table in less than 48 hours.
