Germany: Baden-Württemberg cherry harvest up 50%

The Bureau of Statistics of the German State Baden-Württemberg has announced a first estimate of the harvest of sweet cherries in the state. This is based on the first supply of the fruit at the end of May/ beginning of June 2014. According to the estimate the harvest yield this year is at around 8 tonnes per hectare, reports the German website Fruchthandel.de.

Sweet cherries will be grown on 2,075 hectares in the state this year, and the total harvest is estimated to be 16,630 tonnes. This is around 50 percent more than the harvest amounts of the two previous years. The multiple year average of the years between 2008 to 2013 is 14,690 tonnes.
