Non-compliancy of organic products revealed in France
The General Directorate for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) has identified a number of non-compliant organic products.
26 non-compliant cases out of 229 tested.
24 of these cases do not respect rules applied for organic agriculture:
- Presence of piperonyl butoxide (PBO), substance that synergies pyrethroids (14)
- Residue of pesticides that are unauthorised in organic farming (8)
- GMO's higher than 0.9% (2)
- non-compliance with general rules on heavy metals (2)
Other factors pinpointed include :
- Hygiene rules
- Labelling (absence of certain obligatory labels)
- Price labelling
Anomalies (confusing references to organic farming, lack of traceability, using the word ''organic'' on a menu) were also pointed out during the checks in commercial restaurants.
The checks were carried out by a certified organisation. In total 1,070 establishments were checked, totalling 269 warnings and 31 reports.
