Cornish new Potatoes signal start of summer

This month saw the launch of the best of Cornish New potatoes arrive in Tesco stores across the South West of the country.

Potato specialist, Branston, has welcomed in a bumper crop of the potatoes following a successful growing season. The warm, southern climate and high light levels encourage the crops, with Cornwall traditionally following the Jersey Royal season.

As more focus is placed on provenance, producers are seeing an increase in demand for seasonal, best of British produce.

The Cornish potatoes are often regarded locally as signaling the start of the summer season. Famous for their soft, pale skin and sweet, creamy texture, these potatoes are extremely popular with consumers.

James Truscott, Sales and Marketing Director, commented:
“The start of the Cornish season is always much anticipated at Branston, and this year is no exception. We’re delighted to be showcasing the best of the season in Tesco stores and hope that customers throughout the UK will enjoy fresh taste of seasonal New potatoes sourced from Cornwall.”

Seasonal New potatoes from Cornwall are available exclusively at Tesco stores in Cornwall and the South West from early June. They will be available nationwide from mid June.
