Peru: Mango exports increased in first quarter

The Exporters Association said that during the first four months of this year, Peruvian mango exports amounted to $165.2 million dollars, 25.7% more than in the same period in 2013.

Association management expressed their concern regarding El NiƱo, despite the positive figures, explaining that the northern production could be affected depending on its magnitude.

According to figures from the Business Intelligence System Adex Data Trade, the product was exported in four batches between January and April 2014, and the main batch, including fresh and dried mangoes, generated 117.6 million dollars.

All forms of fresh mangoes, including frozen, accounted for 41.8 million dollars, prepared or preserved mangoes for 4.2 million and the mango juice for 1.5 million dollars.

The largest importer of Peruvian mangoes was the United States, which made purchases worth $64.2 million, 28.3% more than in the first months of last year.

The second biggest importer of the Peruvian mango was the Netherlands with a total turnover of 48.1 million (+21.5%); followed by the UK with 11.3 million (+20.5%), Canada with 7.2 million, Spain with 6 million, Japan with 4.9 million, France with 4.4 million, Chile with 4.3 million, and Germany with 3.9 million, among others.

Peru exports mangoes to 36 countries.
