Spain: Swinglos method to store pears

The need to store fruit and vegetables without using chemicals pushed the world of research to study and develop new "clean" technologies that are now widely used. Recently, the interest for these technologies increased further, especially considering the new ban on other chemicals (such as DPA) deemed harmful for our health.

Nowadays, dynamic controlled atmosphere is a valid alternative to store pears and apples. Treecop Fruites Montoliu in Spain, managed to store Conference pears for 10 months without using a single chemical. The San Bartolome de Altorricon cooperative also stored them for 10 months - 75% of the produce was treated with ethoxiquin and the rest did not receive any kind of chemical treatment, and results were excellent in both cases.

The Swinglos dynamic controlled atmosphere method was created by Fruit Control Equipments srl and consists of a repeated cycle of oxygen and a ULO phase, calculating CO2 depending on the fruit variety. Of course, a sophisticated plant is needed with specific generators and temperature control units. The power of CO2 absorbers depends on the variety.

The monitoring of the system and quality control tests were carried out by Control Dynamic Spain 2014 SL.
