China: Border authorities speed up entry of fresh fruit

The Chinese border authorities of the port of Ningbo have accepted to speed up the entry process for fresh bananas imported from the Philippines. Bananas and other fruits should soon be able to enter the market under the new conditions, including products with a short shelf life, such as cherries. Hours of overtime will be made to simplify the clearance procedure and ensure the fruit's freshness on the local market 

Fruit is mostly imported from the Philippines, Thailand and Chile, including banana, longan, cherries, dried fruits and nuts. There has been a substantial growth in both volume and prices. According to statistics, a total of 3,888 tonnes arrived during the first five months of the year; an 82.7 % increase compared to the same period last year, with the revenue generating growing by 57.9 %.
