For ripening of avocados, mangos, kiwifruit and stone fruit

New ripening chambers at LBP Rotterdam

In three weeks' time, the next expansion at LBP Rotterdam will be realized. Earlier this year, an extra block of cells was added to the existing 25 cells, and in mid-July, 8 new ripening chambers will be added to that. The ripening cells within the walls of the LBP building at Honderdland in Maasdijk serve as an expansion of the ripening capacity already in existence.

Arrivals processing for air cargo and shipping containers, clearance, quality control and storage have been core activities of LBP Rotterdam for 20 years now. Sorting and (re)packaging have also been tasks carried out by LBP for its global customers for years. In order to do that, it has packaging lines for citrus and stone fruit, but also cherries and berries. Additionally, it can sort and package virtually all fresh fruit varieties.

Ripening
The new ripening chambers, designed and realized by Van Kempen, will be ready mid-July, and will accommodate avocados, mangos, kiwifruit and stone fruit that needs ripening. "In the context of the Ready to Eat concept, worldwide demand for ripening fruit at the destination has grown enormously, all the more reason for the logistics provider to offer an adequate solution for that demand", Anton Filippo concludes. "Under the name 'one-stop-shopping', LBP Rotterdam continually aims to facilitate all logistics activities for its customers under one roof. With the realization of these new ripening cells, we have come another step closer to that aim."
